If he’s completely honest, there’s a shadow that lingers over him and it can, at times. be fairly obvious to outside eyes. He has sleeping troubles some nights, and that’s no secret. It was hinted that for a while, he had troubles sleeping alone. Most likely he faces nightmares from the trauma he felt when he was young. But now Seiju takes pills, most likely for his sleep issues although it’s never outright declared that’s what they are. There is a darkness that follows him that can inspire negativity, insecurity and fear within him where normally he tries to avoid those things. He also seems to feel he’s trapped in a constant night – unable to reach the morning regardless how hard he struggles; driven by the fact that he feels that his nightmare isn’t over.
But he has grown stronger than he was when he first entered the First Brigade. In the beginning he spent his days forcing himself into happiness; fooling most but not all. Shouta forced him to start facing the pain – to smile only when he felt like smiling; to cry when he needed to. Learning that he can depend on others… that there were others on his side, helped him grow. He doesn’t feel as pressed to force smiles to hide the worst of his pains, and while he can’t make the pains disappear – he’s become able to accept more true joys in his life. A lot that was once fake - became real, and he started to let in some genuine happiness of his own. He treasures his comrades because they are the two who know him best; who see the faults and support him the most. And they also bring him the most genuine happiness. And he respects them. He trusts them – sometimes more than he trusts himself. He believes that if he goes down a wrong path that he can count on his comrades to lead him back to the right one.
That requires he know his weaknesses – the ones he can control and the ones he can’t. And he does. But because he also forgets at times, that he has to trust people – that he isn’t alone; he sometimes ends up pushing himself very hard. If it’s between pushing himself to his limits or asking others to help him with something that might seem burdensome or could be even a little potentially dangerous, he is more likely to take things on himself. He takes large risks with his well-being. And he even seems passively alright with risking his life in certain situations.
Seiju is incredibly passionate; passionate about justice, passionate about his work, passionate about all his feelings – both positive and negative. Sometimes his feelings get the best of him, trying to make him act out in ways he shouldn’t. In these situations, he is forced to count on his comrades to leash him and force him to see reason. Although that often means he can’t act as he wants to – he’s grateful to be reminded that he has to do things the right way. He isn’t upset that he can’t just do things any way he wants, because that would be too much like being a ‘Doll’ – acting without thinking; without proper justice being served.
The Tokkei are often called dolls; compared to them. Seiju can seem almost exactly like one on the surface when he’s being dishonest - when he gets carried away, or when he tries to hide behind a fake expression. But beyond those moments – the moment the fake faces fall away, he’s painfully human. When he cries, he cries a lot. When he’s happy, he’s alive with cheerfulness. When he’s upset, his pain is deep. Sometimes he’s really talkative. When he gets excited, he can blabber. But other times, he either likes keeping his responses even with those of the person he’s talking with or doing more listening than he does talking.
While his pain is, indeed deep – the majority of his words are bright. He doesn’t like worrying people, and he is - all darkness within him aside, someone who had been born and raised with a cheerful personality. In most situations, he’ll pick the positive over the negative. Seiju enjoys acting playful and teasing good-naturedly. He is the type who is willing to take chances.
He doesn’t mind physical contact – actually he seems fond of it, especially with friends. He will put his arm around people, lean against them when he sleeps, and other casual gestures. He has a soft-spot for small animals, and also a love and appreciation for art. He admits to spending free time in the art museum and being a large fan of the exhibits because he loves beautiful things. But he applies that to people as well. He can appreciate beautiful people – and hates people who are ugly in personality. In no way does he judge people only on the way they appear. Seiju of all people knows better than to fall victim to a pretty face that feels nothing but ugly emotions.
There is also a part of him that is very nurturing; almost motherly. When others appear injured, he tends to fuss over them and get defensive over them. There aren’t many he can get close to who know both sides of his personality, and so he can’t help but worry for them and want to take care of them, after losing his family the way he did. The work he’s a part of is dangerous as well, so in that aspect he’s used to looking out for people’s safety. He is empathetic to varying extents as well, empathizing the most with the families of victims – whether they be the families of the criminals killed by the Tokkei or the families of the condemned criminals’ victims. On top of that, he is particularly protective of and empathetic to young victims – like he had been when he lost his parents.
Seiju is a little unconventional in his thinking at times, as well; using a rather unique weapon. In his work, he also reacts unconventionally to different obstacles – sometimes taking overly drastic measures to take them out, as long as he knows it won’t put anyone else at risk, although he would be willing to risk himself to a certain extent. But he wouldn’t get himself killed unless it was something he thought was worth dying for at the time – though that is sometimes colored by his impassioned actions.
Of all things, his weakness is things of a paranormal nature. He believes in those kinds of things, and would be afraid of them until someone showed him that it couldn’t be what it seems. It’s also said that he’s rather susceptible to the prying and manipulation of others. But he also is shown to have a weak stomach when dealing with particularly gruesome cases. He’ll cover his mouth, or at worst, turn away for a bit when taking such things in.
But in a fight, he is ruthless. He believes what so many others of the Tokkei believe – that the lives of those who would take other lives are worthless. While it’s hard for him to keep his feelings from influencing him entirely on cases, he tries to keep them to a minimum. However, it’s when his feelings are pinged by the events of a case, that he becomes the most deadly. If his feelings are spiked hard enough, he would consider killing a non-condemned criminal who has not yet been tried and found guilty to death for the sake of fulfilling his own sense of justice, and be ready to accept the consequences. But that’s not how he wants to fight. He’d rather do as he’s told and continue to kill condemned criminals for the sake of protecting future victims and trying to ease the suffering of those families who have been affected by their crimes.
While he is sometimes self-destructive, he also seeks to push on - to change even. After being in the darkness so long, he still desires to reach the morning and feel the sun’s warm light again. But more often than he gets lost in self-hatred, he finds himself uncertain or hesitant. He sees the change that he has made already, but seems to forget the value of that change at times, especially when he starts pushing himself harder.
The wire itself is incredibly tough, but thin. And it is sharp enough that it can cut. But used in the right way, it could also be used to restrain someone instead. He also uses it in other unconventional ways – such as using it as a trail for the others to follow when he was taken captive.
His body-type isn’t ideal for fighting without a weapon. He isn’t particularly strong or big. But he has been trained in evasive maneuvers and is smart and quick to make up for any of the body mass he lacks.
He's not going to fight unless he has a reason, but he'll fight if he has to. He won't run.
