[Point in time taken from canon] Chapter 44
[Background] Not much is mentioned in detail of Seiju’s history. He lost his parents when he was a very young boy. Not only that but he saw it happen… watched them die. He even heard the perpetrator’s voice and survived. And he was with his parents while they were on the brink of death. And the last thing his mother told him was to smile, or else all his happiness would slip away. So as tears ran down his face, he somehow managed to smile.
Years later he enrolled in the academy to join the Tokkei – a special group formed to take condemned criminals and execute them in a quick and efficient manner. At that time he was still someone very fake, who smiled all the time – not thinking it was wrong, but only doing it because it was what his mother told him was the right thing to do. He didn’t seem to understand beyond the idea that he wanted to listen to his mother’s last words.
He was assigned to the first brigade with Shouta after the former leader was executed by Shouta himself and there he stayed, and through Shouta, he learned to be more honest about his feelings. And he is still in that brigade now, although it was quite some time between his assignment and the assignment of their third and final member; Usaki.
His history consists of many cases. In each, they work with the Intelligence Division to track down the condemned criminal in question. And when they find their criminal, their job becomes to lure them someplace private so that they can perform the execution.
In public they cover the lower portions of their faces, because they have to keep their identities secret. Their names are not allowed to reach the public for their own safety; because many people do not agree with the Tokkei’s methods, including a number of members of the Police force, and the leaking of that information could mean the end of their lives. They do their work, knowing that there are people who are working against them – trying to kill them. Those people are called Doll Hunters, and they see the Tokkei as nothing more than dolls who have no hearts. The first brigade is a little different in that it consists of Shouta, who firmly believes that the Tokkei are not – and should not act like dolls where other members think it’s fine and perhaps would be easier to be that way in their line of work.
[Personality] Seiju is haunted by a really traumatic incident in his past, which colors his personality vividly. There are moments when he forgets himself, and falls into a rather fake personality; putting on a front that doesn’t reflect his true feelings. He will push himself to smile at the worst of times - having been told to smile even as he watched his parents die, or else his happiness would surely slip away. And he fooled most people, but his fronts aren’t perfect. Now, he tries his best to avoid falling back into those habits and express his real feelings although he himself admits that he is ‘forgetful’ and ‘forgets so easily’. That refers to forgetting that he isn’t alone, and that he should be honest with people, but especially the people who can and want to support him. There are few people Seiju realizes as his friends, whom he can trust with everything, but he’s managed to open up, although his work has always required a lot of secrecy. He’s had to keep his work and his personal life very separate and very secretive. He is accustomed to having very few people he can be completely honest with.
If he’s completely honest, there’s a shadow that lingers over him and it can, at times. be fairly obvious to outside eyes. He has sleeping troubles some nights, and that’s no secret. It was hinted that for a while, he had troubles sleeping alone. Most likely he faces nightmares from the trauma he felt when he was young. But now Seiju takes pills, most likely for his sleep issues although it’s never outright declared that’s what they are. There is a darkness that follows him that can inspire negativity, insecurity and fear within him where normally he tries to avoid those things. He also seems to feel he’s trapped in a constant night – unable to reach the morning regardless how hard he struggles; driven by the fact that he feels that his nightmare isn’t over.
But he has grown stronger than he was when he first entered the First Brigade. In the beginning he spent his days forcing himself into happiness; fooling most but not all. Shouta forced him to start facing the pain – to smile only when he felt like smiling; to cry when he needed to. Learning that he can depend on others… that there were others on his side, helped him grow. He doesn’t feel as pressed to force smiles to hide the worst of his pains, and while he can’t make the pains disappear – he’s become able to accept more true joys in his life. A lot that was once fake - became real, and he started to let in some genuine happiness of his own. He treasures his comrades because they are the two who know him best; who see the faults and support him the most. And they also bring him the most genuine happiness. And he respects them. He trusts them – sometimes more than he trusts himself. He believes that if he goes down a wrong path that he can count on his comrades to lead him back to the right one.
That requires he know his weaknesses – the ones he can control and the ones he can’t. And he does. But because he also forgets at times, that he has to trust people – that he isn’t alone; he sometimes ends up pushing himself very hard. If it’s between pushing himself to his limits or asking others to help him with something that might seem burdensome or could be even a little potentially dangerous, he is more likely to take things on himself. He takes large risks with his well-being. And he even seems passively alright with risking his life in certain situations.
Seiju is incredibly passionate; passionate about justice, passionate about his work, passionate about all his feelings – both positive and negative. Sometimes his feelings get the best of him, trying to make him act out in ways he shouldn’t. In these situations, he is forced to count on his comrades to leash him and force him to see reason. Although that often means he can’t act as he wants to – he’s grateful to be reminded that he has to do things the right way. He isn’t upset that he can’t just do things any way he wants, because that would be too much like being a ‘Doll’ – acting without thinking; without proper justice being served.
The Tokkei are often called dolls; compared to them. Seiju can seem almost exactly like one on the surface when he’s being dishonest - when he gets carried away, or when he tries to hide behind a fake expression. But beyond those moments – the moment the fake faces fall away, he’s painfully human. When he cries, he cries a lot. When he’s happy, he’s alive with cheerfulness. When he’s upset, his pain is deep. Sometimes he’s really talkative. When he gets excited, he can blabber. But other times, he either likes keeping his responses even with those of the person he’s talking with or doing more listening than he does talking.
While his pain is, indeed deep – the majority of his words are bright. He doesn’t like worrying people, and he is - all darkness within him aside, someone who had been born and raised with a cheerful personality. In most situations, he’ll pick the positive over the negative. Seiju enjoys acting playful and teasing good-naturedly. He is the type who is willing to take chances.
He doesn’t mind physical contact – actually he seems fond of it, especially with friends. He will put his arm around people, lean against them when he sleeps, and other casual gestures. He has a soft-spot for small animals, and also a love and appreciation for art. He admits to spending free time in the art museum and being a large fan of the exhibits because he loves beautiful things. But he applies that to people as well. He can appreciate beautiful people – and hates people who are ugly in personality. In no way does he judge people only on the way they appear. Seiju of all people knows better than to fall victim to a pretty face that feels nothing but ugly emotions.
There is also a part of him that is very nurturing; almost motherly. When others appear injured, he tends to fuss over them and get defensive over them. There aren’t many he can get close to who know both sides of his personality, and so he can’t help but worry for them and want to take care of them, after losing his family the way he did. The work he’s a part of is dangerous as well, so in that aspect he’s used to looking out for people’s safety. He is empathetic to varying extents as well, empathizing the most with the families of victims – whether they be the families of the criminals killed by the Tokkei or the families of the condemned criminals’ victims. On top of that, he is particularly protective of and empathetic to young victims – like he had been when he lost his parents.
Seiju is a little unconventional in his thinking at times, as well; using a rather unique weapon. In his work, he also reacts unconventionally to different obstacles – sometimes taking overly drastic measures to take them out, as long as he knows it won’t put anyone else at risk, although he would be willing to risk himself to a certain extent. But he wouldn’t get himself killed unless it was something he thought was worth dying for at the time – though that is sometimes colored by his impassioned actions.
Of all things, his weakness is things of a paranormal nature. He believes in those kinds of things, and would be afraid of them until someone showed him that it couldn’t be what it seems. It’s also said that he’s rather susceptible to the prying and manipulation of others. But he also is shown to have a weak stomach when dealing with particularly gruesome cases. He’ll cover his mouth, or at worst, turn away for a bit when taking such things in.
But in a fight, he is ruthless. He believes what so many others of the Tokkei believe – that the lives of those who would take other lives are worthless. While it’s hard for him to keep his feelings from influencing him entirely on cases, he tries to keep them to a minimum. However, it’s when his feelings are pinged by the events of a case, that he becomes the most deadly. If his feelings are spiked hard enough, he would consider killing a non-condemned criminal who has not yet been tried and found guilty to death for the sake of fulfilling his own sense of justice, and be ready to accept the consequences. But that’s not how he wants to fight. He’d rather do as he’s told and continue to kill condemned criminals for the sake of protecting future victims and trying to ease the suffering of those families who have been affected by their crimes.
While he is sometimes self-destructive, he also seeks to push on - to change even. After being in the darkness so long, he still desires to reach the morning and feel the sun’s warm light again. But more often than he gets lost in self-hatred, he finds himself uncertain or hesitant. He sees the change that he has made already, but seems to forget the value of that change at times, especially when he starts pushing himself harder.
[Abilities] Seiju was trained to be an officer whose job was to execute people in a quick and efficient manner. He has most likely been trained in various forms of combat. On top of that, he’s not a rookie – he’s in the top brigade, with much experience. He could likely fight hand-to-hand or with a gun. However, his weapon of choice is wire. He keeps it harnessed around his wrist and can wield it in ridiculously complicated and deadly ways. Whether it’s long or short-distance, he has a lot of wire at his disposal and he knows how to use it well. In his hands, it is as deadly as a sharp blade or a gun, and he prefers it over all other weapons even though it obviously has plenty of weaknesses as a weapon.
The wire itself is incredibly tough, but thin. And it is sharp enough that it can cut. But used in the right way, it could also be used to restrain someone instead. He also uses it in other unconventional ways – such as using it as a trail for the others to follow when he was taken captive.
His body-type isn’t ideal for fighting without a weapon. He isn’t particularly strong or big. But he has been trained in evasive maneuvers and is smart and quick to make up for any of the body mass he lacks.
He also shows great deductive skills, and has been shown to have a bit of electrical knowledge in dismantling and taking out traps set against them.

[First Person] Hmm, I don’t recognize any of you. [That’s his first comment, said with a giggle and a smile.] Either I haven’t been paying attention or I’m further from home than I thought.
[He’s not being entirely serious with his audience, although he’s not outright lying either. But he’s not bad at faking that cutesy, carefree attitude he’s wearing either. You’d have to look closely to see it, or perhaps simply be familiar with someone like him who would hide true feelings behind a smile.]
The world is a pretty big place, so saying I’ve never heard of the name ‘Somarium’ doesn’t mean much, does it? Or Espoir. Or Somni… So I thought – perhaps the residents could tell me. I’ve been listening, and my situation isn’t the first of its kind – rather, it seems to be shared by many.

[Third Person] The cup got sat down for the third time in the last five minutes, only a few tiny sips lighter. Seiju’s lips were pursed, and his face scrunched in serious thought; the second proof that things were not all well. The house at large was undisturbed, the exceptions being the one cup in use, a tea kettle, and the Dreamberry in front of him. His hat sits on the chair next to him as he reads through the responses once more; trying to wrap his mind around the details. Realistically it shouldn’t be possible. But without another explanation, he would be hard pressed to argue it.
He thought there might be some clue hidden in the papers, since the house seemed clean, but nothing helpful jumped out at him.
Another hour passed and the cup remained untouched. Seiju had done a lot of thinking, but had he made any progress? He couldn’t tell. The next moment he was picking up his hat and carrying it down the hall to his room, where he stripped off his uniform and picked out something a little less conspicuous. He wasn’t going to do anything in that uniform. Not until he had a better idea what or who he was dealing with. There was no telling who was behind all this without a little more investigation.
But he decided that in order to find that out – he was going to play the part. If they wanted him to play house, then so be it. But he wouldn’t be idle in that time, no.
He didn’t have anyone to rely on here. As far as he knew, he was on his own for now. And when the darkness came – and it would come – he would be alone then, too.
[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] Because I really wanted to play him in a game for a while now AND BECAUSE I’M AWFUL because the he will really hate the idea of this world, as someone who has trouble sleeping and probably has more than his fair share of nightmares. But I want him to also get to meet a lot of different people and have fun too.
[Which rule was your favorite and why?] All of them.
